Maria G. Tavera brings a wealth of experience to Lento Law Group, with over 30 years of expertise spanning legal, administrative, and therapeutic disciplines in both the Dominican Republic and the United States.
Maria’s distinguished legal career began in the Dominican Republic, where she served as Assistant to the President of the Supreme Court Justice and as Deputy Director for the United Nations’ Latin America division for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders. Additionally, she practiced law for nearly a decade with Estudio y Bufete Baez & Associates, handling cases across criminal, civil, labor, administrative, and family law.
After relocating to the United States, Maria transitioned her focus to mental health and community services. She served as a psychotherapist for children, adolescents, and adults and then became the Administrative Director for Nueva Vida Behavioral Health Center of New Jersey, a Hispanic community mental health clinic in Camden, where she worked for 13 years.
Maria’s educational background is equally impressive. She earned her Juris Doctor degree and a specialty in International Organizations from Universidad Central del Este (UCE) and later pursued a post-graduate degree in Clinical Counseling and Therapy at Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU). Her foundational studies include Political Economy from the School of Social Science Henry George.
